Airbus A320neo aircraft appeared at the Bydgoszcz airport at the beginning of 2024 for servicing of Pratt & Whitney engines in which a defect had been detected. For safety reasons, a decision was made to ground the entire fleet until repairs could be completed. One of the main locations where the Airbuses were parked became the Bydgoszcz airport, which we can easily notice when driving past it.
Soon, it will be two years since the Airbuses were parked there, and a significant number of them still remain. Most likely, the engine repairs will take many more months and may not even be completed in 2026. From the perspective of the Bydgoszcz airport, however, this is good news, because parking an aircraft generates revenue, improving the airport’s financial balance.
Bydgoszcz is most likely the main base for parking the Airbuses
Globally, the issue affected more than 600 aircraft; in Wizz Air’s case, around 50 jets were said to be impacted. Data from April this year indicates that 37 aircraft in the airline’s livery were still awaiting service. This means that by that point, not even half of the necessary repairs had been completed.

Wizz Air does not disclose how many of its aircraft are parked in Bydgoszcz, but the jets are visible on satellite images. The latest available photo, from July, shows nearly 30 Wizz Air aircraft. This only confirms the theory that this is the main parking location for the airline’s grounded Airbuses, especially given that in spring, 37 aircraft still required servicing.
