The tourist season is in full swing. In mid-July, YouTuber IsabellaSophi, who documents city breaks across Europe with her travel companion, published a video about her visit to Bydgoszcz. During a short trip to Poland, she spent several days exploring the city. Her vlog attracted more than 11,000 views in just eight days, making it a noteworthy showcase of Bydgoszcz for an international audience.
IsabellaSophi is actually Isabella Barrs, a 20-year-old law student living in London. Judging by details visible in the seven-minute video, her visit took place in the second half of June, as the city was hosting the „Ster na Bydgoszcz” festival. One scene even captures the popular bottle boat race.
The video reveals that the two things which impressed Isabella the most were the Harry Potter-themed restaurant, a completely private initiative, and Bydgoszcz’s tram network, which she found particularly exciting because trams are not a common sight in London.
She was referring to the restaurant on Gdańska Street. It is somewhat surprising that someone from the home country of Harry Potter—where the author of the series drew so heavily on British traditions and culture-would travel to Bydgoszcz specifically to experience a Harry Potter-inspired venue.
„We had way too much fun blowing smoke out of the cauldron. I don’t know why we found it so hilarious. Then I ordered this soup—I’ll put the name on the screen. It was absolutely delicious. It was a cold soup. Later I also had hot tomato soup. Once again, the portion was huge, but it tasted amazing. Zav ordered, I think, the Jack Daniel’s wings. I had baked truffle mac and cheese and truffle fries. I was so happy.”
She continued:
„It was incredible. The cauldron was so cool. I also filmed the bathrooms—they were so unusual. You literally enter through a bookshelf. Then Moaning Myrtle starts talking through a speaker, and the toilets are inside this little stone room with red lighting. It looked fantastic and was beautifully designed.”
Isabella concluded her visit by taking a tram to the railway station.
„Then we took the tram. I was so happy that we could take the tram back to the station. It was really nice and very clean.”
