Bydgoszcz is not one of the largest airports, but we have described many stories about how, over the past two years, Hungarians turned it into a parking site for servicing defective Airbus engines, how Ukrainian government aircraft were stationed here for several months, and even a prototype Antonov aircraft. Today, we can add another interesting industry story to this list.
In recent weeks, the German airline Lufthansa has sold at least three Airbus A340-600 aircraft—long-haul planes that have not been produced for 15 years—to the German charter airline Universal Sky Carrier (USC). Lufthansa had withdrawn these aircraft from service. According to information from aerotelegraph.com, two of the planes are to be dismantled for parts in Bydgoszcz, and one in Hahn, Germany. In Bydgoszcz, the dismantling will be carried out by the British company Executive Jet.
USC charters one Airbus A340-600 to Surinam Airways for the route between Amsterdam and Paramaribo in South America. By dismantling the aircraft acquired from Lufthansa for parts, USC will have access to spare components for this plane. According to our information, the aircraft have not yet arrived in Bydgoszcz and are currently parked in Spain.
