Today, PKP PLK opened the bids in the tender for the implementation of the final Kuyavian-Pomeranian section of railway line no. 201: Lipowa Tucholska – Kościerzyna. Ten bids were submitted, all below the budget allocated for this contract by the contracting authority. This is the last bid opening for the entire stretch from Maksymilianowo to Gdynia; bid openings for the remaining sub-sections took place earlier, and in some cases construction work is already underway.
The lowest bid, amounting to PLN 1.247 billion, was submitted by the Mirbud Group, which is associated with Kobylarnia near Bydgoszcz; the local company within the group specializes primarily in road investments. The highest bid – PLN 1.336 billion – came from Strabag, which has already won the tender and is carrying out work on the section involving the reconstruction of the Maksymilianowo junction. PKP PLK’s budget is about PLN 2 million higher than Strabag’s offer.
The modernization of line no. 201 includes the addition of a second track while the Gdynia section will even feature a three-track standard-full electrification, and the adaptation of platforms to accommodate large freight trains. Line no. 201 is a key component of the Baltic-Adriatic TEN-T corridor, which connects Polish Baltic ports with Adriatic ports and the Budapest hub.
The line has been designed for speeds of up to 160 km/h; therefore, level crossings with barriers are not permitted under current regulations, as road-rail intersections must be grade-separated. For this reason, a viaduct over the tracks will be built in Lipowa Tucholska, as shown in the visualization.
In mid-January, bids were opened for the Wierzchucin – Lipowa Tucholska section, and before the end of 2025 bids were opened for the Maksymilianowo – Wierzchucin section. The contracting authority is currently analyzing these bids, but no selection has yet been made. However, for the already mentioned section involving the comprehensive reconstruction of the Maksymilianowo junction, a contract has been signed with Strabag.
In the Pomeranian Voivodeship, the works are significantly more advanced than in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian region.
