Late on Saturday evening, the results of the 13th Ignacy Jan Paderewski International Piano Competition, associated with the city of Bydgoszcz, were announced. The jury awarded the first prize to South Korean representative Roh Hyunjin. Second place went to Italian pianist Elia Cecino – the only European among the top five – and third place to Taiwanese pianist Lin Pin-Hong. Once again, Bydgoszcz proved itself as the organizer of one of the world’s most important piano competitions.
Fourth place was awarded to Korean pianist Kim Jiyoung, and fifth to Japanese pianist Aoshima Shuhei.
Roh Hyunjin began her musical education at the age of 11. She studied music at Seoul National University. She has won numerous national awards and took second place at the Chopin competition in Borderland, USA, although that event is less prestigious than the Polish Chopin Competition. The prize she has just received in Bydgoszcz appears to be the most significant achievement of her career so far.
Today at 5 p.m., a laureates’ concert will take place at the Pomeranian Philharmonic. All five top finalists will perform. It can be watched online for free: https://www.youtube.com/@TheClassicalMusicTV/featured
