Medical degree programs are the most popular fields of study in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship during the ongoing admissions process for the new academic year. At the Collegium Medicum, 5,500 applicants have applied to study medicine, while around 2,000 candidates have applied for dentistry. At the Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology, 1,289 applicants have expressed interest in studying medicine.
Nicolaus Copernicus University (NCU) has allocated 327 places for its medical degree programs at the Collegium Medicum, meaning that nearly 17 applicants are competing for each place. For dentistry, the competition is even higher, with 44 applicants per place. Both programs will be delivered by the Collegium Medicum in Bydgoszcz. It is also worth noting that these are the most popular programs at NCU, even though they are offered outside the university’s main campus in Toruń.
At the Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology, only 75 places are available for medicine. This means that approximately 17.2 applicants are competing for each place, a ratio very similar to that at NCU.
The University of Technology Received a Higher Rating
The medical program at the Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology is still in its early stages. In addition to students admitted this year, only second- and third-year students are currently enrolled. It is also worth recalling that the university had to work hard to obtain accreditation. Two years ago, it launched admissions without being able to guarantee that the program would actually begin. For this reason, receiving the highest Category A scientific evaluation for its Faculty of Medicine is considered a major achievement and a strong confirmation of the faculty’s research quality.
Medicine at NCU’s Collegium Medicum received a Category B+ evaluation. However, a scientific evaluation does not necessarily reflect the quality of teaching. The higher rating awarded to the Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology indicates that its academic staff are more active in conducting research, publishing scientific results, and participating in research projects. This does not automatically translate into a higher standard of education.
