An Impressive Parade Once Again Sailed Along the Brda. Ster na Bydgoszcz Festival Is Underway

Bydgoszcz has a long historical connection with the Brda River, which also reflects the city’s vibrant atmosphere. When the Brda is bustling with activity, it is a sign that plenty is happening in the city. Shortly after 4 p.m., the annual Parade of Watercraft made its way from Mill Island through the city center.

The history of Ster na Bydgoszcz 53°N, 18°E (the geographical coordinates of Bydgoszcz) began in 2008. In the years that followed, the event was held almost every year, with a break during the pandemic. While the accompanying attractions have evolved over time, several elements have become timeless hallmarks of Ster na Bydgoszcz, including the Saturday Parade of Watercraft, the charity Duck Race, the Dragon Boat Race, and the Sunday Bottle Boat Race promoting environmental awareness. The Bottle Boat Race features vessels constructed from recycled materials.

Ster na Bydgoszcz is one of the most important annual events in Bydgoszcz and has enormous potential. Originally, the idea was to attract tourists traveling by water. However, due to low water levels in the Vistula and Noteć rivers, the festival is now mainly supported by local boat owners, whose numbers have grown considerably in recent years. There is also a sense that this year’s edition is somewhat more modest, with most activities concentrated on Mill Island, whereas last year many events also took place around the revitalized Fish Market Square (Rybi Rynek).
