Notice: Bydgoszcz Canal (E70 Waterway) Closed to Navigation on the Bydgoszcz Section

As of Tuesday, 20 October, the E70 waterway has been closed to navigation along the Bydgoszcz section, between Okole Lock and Osowa Góra Lock. No reopening date has been announced yet. The closure is related to planned work on the Czyżkówko, Prądy and Osowa Góra locks, which may require renovation due to their age.

Okole Lock, which marks the boundary between the Bydgoszcz Canal and the Brda River, has already undergone renovation.

Czyżkówko Lock is located next to the Gwiazda sports stadium, where the current route of the Bydgoszcz Canal intersects with the old section, which has been permanently closed to navigation and is known as the canal embankments (Planty nad Kanałem Bydgoskim).

Prądy Lock is situated in the Osowa Góra district, near its industrial area. Osowa Góra Lock, meanwhile, lies west of the S5/S10 expressway, although it is still officially within the administrative boundaries of Bydgoszcz.

Following the closure of the waterway, the Polish Waters National Water Management Authority plans to carry out technical assessments, detailed surveys and design work.

In practice, the closure means that the locks will no longer be operated for navigation. Depending on the findings of the surveys, renovation work on the three locks could be carried out by 2040.
