Bydgoszcz a forge of NATO interoperability. The Alliance aims to be ready for anything

The 2025 edition of the CWIX exercise, dedicated to building interoperability and organized by NATO’s Allied Command Transformation (ACT), with its physical hub in Bydgoszcz, is gradually coming to an end. This year’s edition was record-breaking, attracting more than 4,000 military specialists from 41 NATO member states and partner countries, including Ukraine, which brings extensive frontline experience.

– Over the past three weeks, nearly 4,000 operators, engineers, planners, developers, and military specialists from 41 member and partner countries have gathered at the Joint Force Training Centre to take part in NATO’s most important interoperability-focused exercise – said Lt. Gen. Marcus Annibale, Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Transformation and a U.S. Army officer.

The CWIX exercise was once again coordinated by NATO’s Joint Force Training Centre (JFTC) in Bydgoszcz. It was another year in which, alongside the JFTC headquarters, interoperability testing was also conducted at the Bydgoszcz airport area.

CWIX stands for Coalition Warrior Interoperability Exercise. – The goal is simple. During CWIX, we want to ensure that allied and partner forces can communicate, exchange classified information, make decisions, and operate together effectively when it matters most. And today, that is more necessary than ever. We meet at a time when the security environment is more complex, dynamic, and demanding than at any point in recent history – emphasized Lt. Gen. Annibale.

During CWIX, the battlefield AI system “Arcadia,” developed primarily by French companies, was tested. It is the second system of this kind within NATO, following the American Palantir system. In French media, it is sometimes described as an attempt to build European digital sovereignty. Initial tests – as reported during the press conference – are promising, but more detailed assessments of Arcadia will only be possible in a few weeks.

Among the systems presented to the media was a mobile satellite communications system designed to be resistant to Russian electronic warfare and signal-jamming capabilities.
